The article focuses on the high-quality development of sports culture driven by new quality productivity, and explores in depth the logic, problems, and strategies of its process, aiming to provide a theoretical framework and practical support for the iteration and upgrading of sports culture in the new era. Research suggests that the essence of driving high-quality development of sports culture with new quality productivity is the process of empowering innovative development and digital transformation of sports culture with modern technology. This helps to enrich the production of sports culture content, update the forms of sports culture interpretation, open up channels for sports culture dissemination, innovate carriers of sports culture inheritance, stimulate the consumption of sports culture products, and enhance the governance capacity of sports culture. However, in the development of sports culture practice, there is a lack of understanding of the endogeneity of technological applications, key technologies for digital transformation have not yet been breakthrough, contradictions in industrial development urgently need to be alleviated, and the supply mechanism for technology-based talents needs to be improved. To this end, we should combine the development laws of new quality productive forces, strengthen the overall planning of scientific and technological innovation, focus on research and development in key areas, accelerate the transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements, promote the cultivation of sports science and technology talents, and play a leading role in standard construction.

This study retrieves Olympic-related vocabulary from the Google Books corpus (1900–2019) to analyze the evolution of key figures, Olympic legacies, organizational structures, Olympic Games, and international sports federations. The findings reveal that the influence of International Olympic Committee (IOC) presidents peaks during their tenures. Olympic legacies exhibit a polarized developmental trajectory, with the Olympic Torch Relay demonstrating more intuitive symbolism and superior promotional outcomes. The IOC’s dominant role within the Olympic organizational framework exerts an absolute impact on the movement’s progression. The 2012 London Olympics generated the most significant Olympic effect, offering innovative insights for post-Games development. Among international sports federations, the tennis federation exhibits relatively higher social influence and exemplifies an exemplary developmental model. Supported by precise big data, longitudinal and horizontal comparative analyses clarify the developmental characteristics and trends of Olympic-related figures, legacies, organizations, and Games, enriching research perspectives and methodologies while illuminating the century-long evolution of the Olympic Movement.

“Family Duty, National Prestige”: A Neo-Familialistic Interpretation of Chinese Skateboarders’ Attitudes towards the Inclusion of Skateboarding in the Olympics
    ANG Chen, HU Xiaoqian
    2025, 51 (2):  29-42.  doi: 10.15942/j.jcsu.2025.02.04
    Abstract ( 78 )   PDF (861KB) ( 87 )   Save
Global skateboarding communities have historically demonstrated multifaceted resistance to the sport’s inclusion in the Olympic programme. However, Chinese skateboarders, in contrast, exhibit a decidedly positive attitude towards the IOC’s generous initiative compared to their Western counterparts. Grounded in the theoretical framework of Neo-Familism, this study employs video-based polyvocal ethnography to examine how the Chinese skateboarders’ understanding of Family and State influences their perception of their role and duty, and consequently, their practices within the subcultural community. The findings reveal two key dimensions: (1) Through the theoretical lenses of “descending familism” and the “intimate turn,” Chinese skateboarders interpret their subcultural participation with a measured and adaptive tone, which is shaped by familial discipline. Unlike their Western counterparts, grassroots skateboarders in China actively navigate family expectations while maintaining their involvement in skateboarding culture, which establish a dynamic balance between subcultural authenticity and filial obligations.(2) Informed by the concepts of “materialism” and “interest symbiosis,” the inclusion of skateboarding in the Olympic programme has provided Chinese practitioners with a powerful discourse that legitimises the sport within China’s sociocultural framework. By strategically employing this discourse to portray skateboarding as a means of personal development, Chinese skateboarders engage in an “improvisational negotiation of family life,” aligning subcultural commitments with broader familial and societal imperatives. This study offers a threefold contribution. It provides empirical explanations for the different attitudes of Eastern and Western skateboarder communities towards the fate of skateboarding in the Olympics. The second is that it also theoretically advances Neo-Familism with the discussion of the interplay between family and state. Thirdly, the study proposes three recommendations for the development of skateboarding in China, which are promote the noble virtues of familial-national sentiment, build new hubs for youth culture, and integrating skateboarding into education initiatives.

The Multidimensional Influence of Digital Economy Development on Employment in the Sports Industry: Evidence from Chinese Listed Sports Companies
    XU Kaijuan, HE Jinsong
    2025, 51 (2):  43-54.  doi: 10.15942/j.jcsu.2025.02.05
    Abstract ( 85 )   PDF (772KB) ( 81 )   Save
While the digital economy has profoundly reshaped China’s employment landscape, empirical analyses focusing on the sports sector remain scarce. This study integrates employment quantity, structure, and quality within a unified framework to construct a multidimensional mechanism elucidating the influence of digital economy development on employment in the sports industry. Utilizing data from listed sports companies, we validate the heterogeneous effects of digital economy growth on employment outcomes in this sector. Key findings reveal that digital economy development significantly enhances the employment absorption capacity of the sports industry and optimizes its employment structure. However, its role in improving employment quality remains statistically insignificant. As the digital economy serves as a critical foundation for achieving higher-quality employment, we propose policy recommendations to strengthen digital infrastructure, advance sports-related producer services, cultivate digital sports talent, and fully unleash the latent potential of the digital economy in driving employment in the sports industry.

    2025, 51 (2):  55-61,71.  doi: 10.15942/j.jcsu.2025.02.06
    Abstract ( 83 )   PDF (995KB) ( 58 )   Save
It is crucial to re-examine the development of traditional ethnic sports in China under the background of high-quality development and promote the industrialization and high-quality development of traditional ethnic sports resources. Through the comprehensive application of theoretical knowledge in sports, culture, industry, and other related fields, it is believed that traditional ethnic sports resources are facing a trend of "dissolution", and "industrialization" is the only way to promote the high-quality development of traditional ethnic sports. High quality development is the implementation of the new development concept. Under the guidance of the new development concept, research proposes a path for the industrialization of traditional ethnic sports resources, namely protection and innovation: promoting the transformation of the development mode and industrial upgrading of traditional ethnic sports resources; Classification and integration: excavating and organizing to stimulate the inherent vitality of the industrialization of traditional ethnic sports resources; Science and Efficiency: Improving the Evaluation Index System to Ensure Harmonious Development between Ecology and Industrialization; Cross border and integration: embracing and expanding the industrialization development channel of traditional ethnic sports resources; Communication and branding: Co building and sharing to promote the achievements of industrialization development, with everyone participating and enjoying them.

“Thought” and “History” in the “Meta-Problem”: Scopes and Methodologies of Writing the Intellectual History of Sport
    LIU Xinran, LIN wen
    2025, 51 (2):  72-80,102.  doi: 10.15942/j.jcsu.2025.02.08
    Abstract ( 76 )   PDF (1082KB) ( 65 )   Save
Employing documentary analysis within the framework of intellectual history, this study traces the “meta-problem” of reconciling “thought” (si) and “history” (shi) through their historical trajectories and conceptual lineages. It investigates the scopes, methods, and authorship in writing the intellectual history of sport, aiming to provide theoretical foundations and methodological reflections for this disciplinary endeavor. The articulation of sport intellectual history needs to address two foundational questions: the epistemological possibility of “thought” and the ontological constitution of “history”. Under the paradigm of the meta-problem, the research synthesizes their interconnected significance of “though” and “history”. In defining the “meta-problem”, it is necessary to explore the scope of writing the intellectual history of sport, interpret the research pathways embedded in historical documents, decode historical facts through socio-political contextualization of pivotal events, recover thinkers’ motivations, align with the problems inherent in historical thought, interrogate policy systems within institutional discourses. Only by doing so can the conceptual lineages and thematic cores of sport intellectual history be unveiled in a comprehensive way. In tracing “meta-problem”, it is necessary to combine the 5 methods of descriptive, interpretive, speculative, critical and continuous writing. The authorship of sport intellectual history originates from the scholar’s interpretative insights, and needs to answer the question: “Who is the author?” Writing itself constitutes the core meta-problem, requiring immersion into the symbiotic matrix where thought-as-process and history-as-structure coalesce. Only through such epistemic praxis can the profound logos embedded within sport intellectual history be systematically unveiled.

How to Enhance the Quality and Efficiency of National Fitness Volunteer Services? A Review of Actions Based on 50 Outstanding Cases Across China
WU Jin, YANG Yuhang, LI Liqiang, SUN Youping
    2025, 51 (2):  81-89.  doi: 10.15942/j.jcsu.2025.02.09
    Abstract ( 77 )   PDF (779KB) ( 64 )   Save
Under the background of firmly advancing the high-quality development of mass sports, how to achieve the “dual enhancement of quality and efficiency” in national fitness volunteer services has become a key societal concern. Through qualitative analysis of 50 outstanding national fitness volunteer service cases in China in 2023 and the construction of a theoretical framework for improving the quality and efficiency of such services using the COM-B analysis model, this study identifies “action goals, action measures, and action guarantees” as the core categories of national fitness volunteer services. The research reveals that enhancing the quality and efficiency of national fitness volunteer service in China follows an action logic centered on motivating fitness participation, improving fitness capabilities, creating fitness opportunities, and ensuring fitness support. Specifically, motivating fitness participation serves as the action goal; under this goal, improving fitness capabilities and creating fitness environments constitute the concrete measures, with mutual reinforcement between the two; and ensuring fitness support provides the foundational guarantee for the entire volunteer service system. Based on these findings, the study proposes: advancing service refinement through emotional engagement, promoting professionalism through capacity-building, fostering integration through platform development, and enhancing collaboration through institutional safeguards. These pathways aim to further achieve high-quality development of national fitness volunteer services.

    2025, 51 (2):  90-102.  doi: 10.15942/j.jcsu.2025.02.10
    Abstract ( 90 )   PDF (687KB) ( 97 )   Save
The metaverse is an inevitable trend of informatization and virtualization, and its holographic digital world of virtual and real coexistence provides a “new quality productivity” to empower the development of national fitness. Using a combination of literature and logical analyses, the study explores the empowering effect of the metaverse on the development of national fitness, and proposes a strategy of “metaverse + national fitness”. The study concludes that the meta-universe has the logical reasoning of empowering individual participation in national fitness, empowering the development of related industries of national fitness, and empowering the innovation of governance of national fitness, but the meta-universe empowers the development of national fitness and faces the reality of the dilemma that the technical level, market environment and institutional construction are yet to be perfected at the present time. To promote the application of “meta-universe + national fitness”, it is necessary to accelerate the consolidation and improvement of infrastructure, strengthen the integration and innovation of key technologies, cultivate the market system of scene traction, construct the industrial support of synergistic development, give play to the institutional effectiveness of macro-encouragement, and construct a safe and reliable regulatory mechanism.

Sustainable Development Mechanism of “Village-branded” Football Events: Re-examining Rural Sports Revitalization from the Perspective of Neo-endogenous Development Theory
TIAN Jianqiang, DING Xianming, WU Sai, WANG Zicong, WANG Jiahong
    2025, 51 (2):  103-113.  doi: 10.15942/j.jcsu.2025.02.11
    Abstract ( 78 )   PDF (826KB) ( 68 )   Save
Taking the “Village Super League” in Rongjiang, Guizhou as a case study, this article deeply analyzes its internal development logic characterized by “people-centeredness”, “local cultural integration,” “media-driven popularity,” and “point-to-area radiation.” Using proceduralized grounded theory coding techniques, the study identifies five main categories—“accumulation of local resources”, “deep participation of villagers”, “construction of media discourse”, “industrial integration and interaction” and “cross-boundary collaboration and symbiosis”—along with their logical interrelationships. A sustainable development mechanism model for “village-branded” football events is thereby constructed. The findings reveal that the accumulation of local resources provides foundational conditions for sustainable development, villagers’ deep participation plays a critical role, media discourse construction acts as a mediator, industrial integration serves interactive functions, and cross-boundary collaboration enables empowerment. These five categories interact dynamically through vertical linkages and horizontal synergies, collectively driving the core category of “sustainable development mechanism.” Recommendations include preserving the events’ “purity” and “rural authenticity,” promoting “distinctive and aggregated resource utilization”, fostering “industrialization” and “hyperlinked themes” for village-branded events, and establishing “super brands” and “super economies” for such events.

Simulation and Enhancement of School Football Policy Implementation Based on System Dynamics
HU Yonggang, YU Lirong, YANG Chengwei
    2025, 51 (2):  114-124.  doi: 10.15942/j.jcsu.2025.02.12
    Abstract ( 76 )   PDF (4107KB) ( 47 )   Save
This study used system dynamics theory and methodology to create a system dynamics model of school football policy implementation with the factors affecting school football policy implementation as system variable indicators and conducted simulation test, aiming to help implementers accurately grasp football implementation pathways and orientation. The results show that: (1) school football policy implementation in the baseline scenario improves slowly. By 2030, the implementation capacity will grow by 178.8% compared with 2009; (2) all the 47 variables included in the four dimensions (policy consensus, implementation culture, implementation coordination, and implementation effect) can positively enhance policy implementation, but the enhancement effect of every single variable is limited; (3) effect of policy implementation coordination at the early stage is significant, while at the later stage policy consensus becomes a key variable affecting the upper limit of policy implementation. Based on this model, three pathways to enhance implementation have been designed: the parallel development of policy consensus and coordinated action between implementation bodies through various strategic combinations; the parallel development of implementation culture and implementation control and constraints; and the comprehensive development of reaching consensus, fostering culture, refining mechanisms, and providing feedback on effectiveness. These pathways can simulate the effects of different strategy combinations, and provide reference for implementers to improve their work efficiency.

How sports can promote peace: A historical survey of the mentality in the negotiation of the USA–USSR Track and Field Dual Meet Series
GU Shuai, YU Siyuan, LIU Guihai
    2025, 51 (2):  125-133.  doi: 10.15942/j.jcsu.2025.02.13
    Abstract ( 70 )   PDF (680KB) ( 41 )   Save
During the Cold War, the United States and the Soviet Union engaged in negotiations surrounding the USA–USSR Track and Field Dual Meet Series, establishing a sports-based diplomatic consultation channel and mechanism. This initiative not only facilitated the first handshake and cooperation between the two nations amid the Cold War but also contributed to the repeal of the McCarran-Walter Act in the United States and led to the signing of the first U.S.-Soviet cultural exchange agreement of the Cold War era. These developments, in turn, spurred broader cooperation across multiple domains, fostering a constructive competitive-cooperative relationship between the two great powers and promoting the “Long Peace” during the Cold War through sports. Employing the history of mentality approach, this study conducts a genealogical examination of the six-year-long negotiation process behind the USA–USSR Track and Field Dual Meet Series, empirically reconstructing the historical trajectory of the United States’ initial invitation, the Soviet Union’s consecutive counter-invitations, and the eventual agreement on the competition contract. The repeated cycles of invitations and rejections reflect the caution and complexity inherent in great-power sports diplomacy during this period. Unlike economic sanctions and arms races, U.S.-Soviet sports exchanges during the Cold War exhibited distinct characteristics, including peaceful methods, public processes, and cooperative outcomes, encapsulating the intrinsic value of sports in promoting peace. Examining the interplay between sports and politics during the Cold War enhances our understanding of the motives, methods, and mechanisms through which sports engage in great-power rivalry. This, in turn, provides historical insights for leveraging sports diplomacy in fostering new forms of great-power relations in the contemporary era.

The Paradigm Writes Back: Cultural Reflection and Contemporary Enlightenment of Kyudo

    2025, 51 (2):  134-142.  doi: 10.15942/j.jcsu.2025.02.14
    Abstract ( 66 )   PDF (715KB) ( 44 )   Save
Kyudo, as an art of archery popular in the world, has been regarded as a typical example of Eastern culture that integrates tradition, aesthetics, sportsmanship, and mysticism. However, this paper combines historical empirical research with Marxist cultural criticism theory to thoroughly reflect on the foundation of Kyudo, arguing that: (1) Kyudo is not a constant tradition but an invention of the Meiji elites. It carries the strong ideology of “national iconization” and combines the strategies of “Orientalism” and “Occidentalism”; (2) The reason why Kyudo has become a culturally influential phenomenon internationally includes the need for spiritual healing in the “one-dimensional age”, the clamor of mystics and cultural hippies, and the radical symbolic production behavior in the post-Fordist era. Given that the monolithic narrative of modern Kyudo has long deviated from the diverse cultural traditions of archery in Japan and Asia in its anti-historical radical role, only by “reversely writing the paradigm” to reawaken the true traditions of the “subjective multiplicity” and “extensive dissemination” of Asian archery can we truly promote human understanding and peace in a decentralized narrative of diversity, inclusiveness, equality, and exchange.

Collective Folk Writing on Chinese Martial Arts in English Contexts: A Case Study of the “Chinese Martial Arts” Entry on Wikipedia
LI Zhengyi, LUO Chengdi, LI Bohuai
    2025, 51 (2):  143-150.  doi: 10.15942/j.jcsu.2025.02.15
    Abstract ( 70 )   PDF (565KB) ( 54 )   Save
With the increasing globalization of Chinese martial arts, diverse forms and levels of documentation have emerged worldwide. This study examines the collaborative folk writing of Chinese martial arts in English-language contexts by analyzing the development trajectory, contributor demographics, writing practices, and negotiations/competitions observed in the Wikipedia entry “Chinese Martial Arts”. The research reveals that the entry’s evolution is characterized by continuous growth and refinement, yet remains an ongoing, “unfinished” process. While the writing inherently exhibits distinct international and collective traits, the emergence of core contributor groups and Wikipedia’s editorial protocols dominate the negotiation and competition among diverse perspectives, ultimately shaping the entry’s narrative direction and textual representation. Notably, the study identifies a striking absence of Chinese voices in this collaborative writing process. It emphasizes the urgent need to integrate Chinese perspectives and knowledge into the global dissemination of martial arts discourse to bridge this representational gap.

LYU Ke, PAN Chaoxiang, WU Ao, OUYANG fan
    2025, 51 (2):  161-170.  doi: 10.15942/j.jcsu.2025.02.17
    Abstract ( 75 )   PDF (715KB) ( 82 )   Save
Objective: To examine the influence relationships and mechanism among physical education teachers' health education literacy, the implementation quality of health education curriculum, and students' health literacy. Methods: A total of 614 valid questionnaires were collected from 640 middle school students at institutions designated as part of the first batch of national healthy school construction units approved by the Ministry of Education. Structural equation modeling (SEM) and the bias-corrected Bootstrap method were employed for data analysis. Results: Physical education teachers' health education literacy directly and positively influences both students' health literacy and the implementation quality of health education curriculum. The implementation quality of health education curriculum significantly and positively promotes students' health literacy. Furthermore, the implementation quality of health education curriculum exhibits a partial mediation effect between physical education teachers' health education literacy and students' health literacy. Conclusions: The implementation quality of health education curriculum plays a critical role when physical education teachers' health education literacy positively predicts students' health literacy. However, the implementation quality of health education curriculum is constrained by the level of pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) in health education possessed by physical education teachers. Therefore, it is imperative to accelerate the improvement of health education-related curriculum systems during the pre-service training stage for physical education teachers, strengthen thematic health education training during their in-service professional development, and establish evaluation standards and monitoring mechanisms for health education curricula to ensure the effective enhancement of students' health literacy levels.

Association of Time Spent on Physical Activity and Sedentary Behavior with Frailty in Community-dwelling Older Women: Isotemporal Substitution Model
WU Shuang, LI Ting, ZHANG Xianliang, CHEN Si, HE Qiang
    2025, 51 (2):  171-178.  doi: 10.15942/j.jcsu.2025.02.18
    Abstract ( 78 )   PDF (596KB) ( 46 )   Save
Objective: The relationship between older women frailty and behavioral changes (such as physical activity replacing sedentary behavior) is not clear. This study used isotemporal substitution model to simulate the effect of light physical activity (LPA) and moderate-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) replacing sedentary behavior (SEB) on older women frailty. Methods: A convenient sampling method was used to recruit 1370 participants aged 60-70 years from multiple communities in Yantai, and 1099 participants were finally included. MVPA, LPA and SEB were objectively measured with accelerometer. The frailty status was evaluated according to the Fried phenotype. Three binary logistic regression models and three ordered multi-classification logistic regression models (single model, partition model and isotemporal substitution model) were used to evaluate the relationship between MVPA, LPA, SEB and frailty. Results: After adjusting all covariate factors, the single model found that MVPA and LPA were significantly associated with lower risk of pre-frailty and frailty, while SEB was significantly associated with higher risk of pre-frailty and frailty. Putting MVPA, LPA and SEB into the partition model, the results showed that LPA was significantly associated with pre-frailty, but not related to frailty, MVPA was significantly associated with pre-frailty and frailty, and SEB was not associated with pre-frailty and frailty. The results of isotemporal substitution model showed that: (1) 30 minutes of LPA replacing the same amount of SEB significantly reduced the risk of pre-frailty and frailty by 8% and 7% respectively; (2) 30 minutes of MVPA repalcing the same amount of SEB significantly reduced the risk of pre-frailty and frailty by 41% and 47% respectively; (3) 30 minutes of MVPA replacing the same amount of LPA significantly reduced the risk of pre-frailty and frailty by 35% and 42% respectively. Conclusion: MVPA and LPA can change the frailty status of the older women living in the community. At the same time, MVPA is better than LPA in changing the frailty status. Therefore, it is recommended that older women should avoid SEB as much as possible and increase a certain amount of physical activity every day to replace SEB, and they will get more health benefits when MVPA is increased on a daily basis to replace SEB.
