Abstract: As the first party secretary of the Chengdu Institute of Physical Education and a well-known sports theory research scholar in China, Hu Xiaofeng has played a vital role in developing the Chengdu Institute of Physical Education. This paper uses the methods of literature and interviews to sort out and analyze Hu Xiaofeng’s sports thought and historical contribution. The study points out that Hu Xiaofeng is deeply influenced by Marxism and Tao Xingzhi 's view of life education, showing four aspects of sports thought: one is the socialist sports thought under the guidance of Marxism; the second is the big sports view based on the new stage of social development; the third is to emphasize the all-round development of moral, intellectual and physical education thought; fourth, pay attention to the sports management thought of teaching and scientific research. Hu Xiaofeng has made three contributions in his work : (1) leading and promoting the rapid development of Chengdu Sport University from three aspects: characteristic discipline construction, theoretical talent training, and professional teaching reform; (2) Promoting the in-depth study of the basic theoretical issues of sports in China from the two aspects of sports concept analysis and discipline system improvement. (3) Effectively promoted the development and dissemination of Tao Xingzhi’s educational thought.
