Abstract: Based on the problems exposed by mass sports events in China, this present paper applies the theory of social governance to the analysis of the motivation, dilemmas and solutions of mass sports events governance. Research suggests that the modernization of the national governance system and governance capabilities, the transformation of government sports event management methods, and the integration and interaction of multiple governance entities constitute the causes for the governance of mass sports events; the governance structure of the government and social forces is unbalanced, and the role of the government is not clearly defined. Vagueness and conflicts of interest among multiple governance subjects are the main dilemma faced by current mass sports events. Based on the causes and difficulties of the governance of mass sports events, this present paper proposes to construct a multi-subject collaborative governance pattern, clarify the power and responsibility boundaries in the government governance process, and establish a two-way government and society supervision mechanism.
