Abstract: Mom’s unhealthy life style and/or living environment before childbirth can lead to significant increased risksfor the development of the fetus, and growth of the child. Many studies showed that regular maternal exercise has long-term positive health benefits in offspring, including but not limited to reducing the incidence of age-related diseases. We summarized the recent publications regarding the "reprogramming" effects of maternal exercise on fetal development through epigenetic regulations and discussed its mechanisms. This review may provide a theoretical basis and research ideas for the in-depth studies of the intergenerational effects of maternal exercise.
