Can Fitness App Use Promote Exercise Behavior? ——Based on the Mediating Effect of Exercise Self-Efficacy and the Moderating Effect of Social Support

Abstract: In order to give an interpretation for the relationship and complex mechanism between fitness app use and exercise behavior, a moderated mediation model was constructed from the perspective of the ecological model of physical activity. A total of 558 fitness app users over the age of 18 in China participated in this study. The results show that: (1) Fitness app significantly and positively influenced exercise behaviors. (2) Exercise self-efficacy cognition partially mediated this relation.(3) This mediating effect was moderated by friends support. The findings not only provide new evidence for the connection between fitness app and exercise behavior, but also can help to promote national fitness and healthy promotion.
