Abstract: Professor Joseph Maguire is the most important sociologist of sports in Europe and North America. His research areas are sports, culture and society, including sports violence, sports injury, sports and body/emotion, sports and media, etc., and currently he focuses on sports and social theory, sports and globalization. In the form of academic interview, this paper reflects on the development of sports sociology and the skills of sports sociology from Professor Maguire's personal perspective, which may be helpful to the teaching and research of sports sociology in China. The interview involves Professor Maguire's personal academic inheritance, academic track, the position and role of sports in society, research methods of sports sociology, the historical context, development status, problems and future prospects of sports sociology in the west, especially in the British context.
