Abstract: Summarizing the history and achievements of sports in the 70 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, and systematically sorting out the basic laws and characteristics of the development of socialist sports with Chinese characteristics by means of historical methodology are of great significance for promoting the construction of sports power. Although some results on the sports history of the People's Republic of China were achieved at some important time points in the past, they failed to cover the new changes in China's sports in the past decade, and at the same time, there are many areas that need to be improved academically. Based on the analysis of the research status of sports history of the People's Republic of China, this present paper proposes some thoughts on further expanding and deepening the research of sports history of the People's Republic of China from the perspectives of principles to be followed, important issues of concern, content system construction and research methods.
