Abstract: In the handed down literature, there are few descriptions and records of children's sports activities in the Song Dynasty, but a large number of unearthed and handed down cultural relics record and display a variety of children's sports activities, which mainly include Cuju (ancient football), Chuiwan(ancient golf), Jiaoli(ancient wrestling), Qizhuma (bamboo horse riding), Fangzhiyuan (kite flying), Yiqi (chess), dancing, and fishing. On the basis of sorting out the cultural relics of the North and South Song dynasties, the main reasons behind the formation of the views during the North and South Dynasties include: the emphasis on children rearing; the emphasis on children's education; the unprecedented prosperity of sports activities; and the popularization of sports activities among civilians.
Key words: the North and South Song Dynasties, cultural relics of children playing games, views of children's sports
