Abstract: This paper studies by means of literature review the development history, experience and orientation of rural sports work under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC). It is argued that under the leadership of the CPC, rural sports work has taken up the roles of serving the revolutionary war, serving labor production and national defense construction, serving the "two civilizations" and new rural construction, and serving the urban-rural integration and rural revitalization strategy respectively in the four historical periods: the period of New Democratic Revolution, the period of Socialist Revolution and Construction, the period of Reform and Opening-up and Socialist Modernization, and the new era of Socialism with Chinese characteristics; adhering to the leadership of the CPC, adhering to the supremacy of the people, adhering to the Chinese road, and adhering to practical matters are the valuable historical experience of rural sports work since the founding of the CPC. It is proposed that promoting the integrated development of urban and rural sports in line with the rural revitalization strategy, building a higher level of public service system of rural sports in line with the national fitness strategy, making up for the shortcomings of the development of mass sports in rural areas in line with the strategy of strengthening the country through sports, and meeting the needs of the peasants for a good and healthy life in line with the Health China strategy are the strategic orientations of rural sports work in the new journey.
