  • To gain an in-depth understanding of the NBA’s reform trends and provide references for building the CBA into a world-class league with Chinese characteristics, this study employs the methods of literature review, case analysis, and expert interviews to analyze the major reform trends of the NBA in recent years. The results indicate that the NBA’s reforms primarily cover seven aspects: draft methods, competition schedules, game rules, playoff qualification systems, All-Star games, referee systems, and award ceremonies. The reform trends focus on five areas: playoff qualification and seeding methods, the introduction of in-season tournaments, minimum age requirements for college players entering the league, the scale and level of overseas games, and the referee penalty report system. The implications for the CBA League include: establishing a philosophy of continuous optimization and highlighting distinctive features; basing reforms on the unique subjective and objective realities of the league’s development; guiding reforms with the league’s diverse and specific goals; focusing on detailed advancements from macro to micro levels; considering All-Star game reforms as a potential highlight; and addressing the challenge of balancing and resolving numerous controversial issues.
