Abstract
This study taking the migrant workers in Chengdu as a sample, investigated migrant workers’ awareness/behavior of participating in sports and its relationship with the degree of their integration into city. Research results showed that Chengdu migrant workers’ awareness and behavior of sport participation is low, while the degree of their integration into the city is high. Statistically, there is no correlation between sports participation awareness and behavior and degree of integration into the city. The hypothesis was not proven that migrant workers’ participation in sport can contribute to their integration into the city. The study also found that positive evaluation of sport correlates with the degree of integration. Our analysis revealed that sport features social participation, interaction, learning and organization in theory, but in reality, the concept of regarding movement as physical exercise restricts migrant workers’ participation in sports behavior, and therefore, the role of sports in facilitating migrant workers’ integration into city still lacks the psychological and practical conditions.
