Abstract: "Promoting sports events, building the city, developing industry, and benefiting the people" is Chengdu's guideline of building a world-famous city of sport events, and it has established a "four-in-one" top-level design for the city's development from the perspective of sports economy. Using the methods of literature review, field investigation and expert interview, this paper examines the development characteristics of famous sports cities at home and abroad, systematically analyzes the current situation and difficulties of Chengdu in building a world-famous city of sport events, and explores how to open up new prospects for the construction of a world-famous city of sport events. The study indicates that Chengdu has achieved positive results in building a world-famous city of sport events, forming a "five-way expansion" strategic orientation. However, Chengdu is still faced with such dilemmas as complicated external environment, unbalanced regional development, poor competition system, weak foundation of professional sports, lack of leading sports enterprises, and weak sports culture. In order to accelerate the realization of the goal of building a world-famous city of sport events, this paper puts forward the following strategies: adhere to inter-regional linkage and take the road of cooperative development; make use of its own characteristics and take the road of differentiated development; strengthen innovation drive and take the road of science and technology empowerment; consolidate the industrial carrier and take the road of brand building; promote cross-industrial integration and take the optimized path of industrial upgrading.
